This cozy mulled red wine beverage not only tastes delicious, but it also perfumes the home while warming the soul! Who needs scented candles when you’ve got mulled wine??


Mulled Red Wine
SERVES: 6
COOK TIME: 1 hour
Ingredients for Mulled Red Wine:
- 750 ml bottle full bodied fruity red
- 1 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1 1/2 cup apple cider
- 2 tsp ground cardamom
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 2 star anise
- 1 tsp whole cloves
- 1 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 1/2 cup apple brandy
- 1 Tbs Black walnut bitters
- 1/2 cup apple brandy
- 1/2 cup Disaronno
Optional Garnishes (Mix and match or choose a favorite):
- Blackberries
- Cinnamon sticks
- Cranberries
- Orange slices
- Pomegranate seeds
- Rosemary sprigs
METHOD FOR MULLED RED WINE:
- Add the wine, orange juice, apple cider, and maple syrup to a large pot over medium-low heat and stir.
- Add the cinnamon, cloves, star anise, cardamom and grated nutmeg. Bring to a gentle simmer, then cover with a lid and allow to cook on low, stirring every half hour or so.
- Remove the spices and add in cranberries, pomegranate seeds, orange slices and pear slices. Allow the fruit to infuse for about 10-15 minutes before removing from heat.
- Afterwards, pour in the brandy, Disaronno and apple brandy. Give another stir then serve warm.
