Sometimes I’m not in the mood for capers or pickled things. Sometimes I enjoy focusing on the creamy, salty, smokiness of a smoked salmon spread. The pre-made stuff from the stores don’t quite fill my cup either, so this recipe is a solution to all those things. Of course, you can add capers and lemon, and all that jazz if you’d like, but definitely taste test this first! It’s light and fresh, a pleasant balance of smoked fish to creaminess, not too heavy, and is great on a cracker, in between tea sandwiches, or a fluffier alternative to cream cheese on bagels.

Although, if you’d like a creamy brininess, have the funds, and feel like being *extra* caviar makes a wonderfully delicious addition! It takes the dip from an appetizer and takes it up a notch to a special occasion!

Anyways, I digress, for the recipe, please scroll onwards.

Smoked Salmon Spread

PREP TIME: 10-15 MIN
YIELDS: 1 PINT / ABOUT 2 CUPS

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (8 ounces) cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup full fat sour cream
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 8 ounces smoked wild salmon
  • 1/4 cup fresh chopped chives
  • 1-2 Tbs fresh chopped dill
  • 1/4 cup shallots, minced
  • 1/4 cup celery, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Caviar (optional)

Directions for Smoked Salmon Spread:

  1. In a food processor, add all ingredients except for the smoked salmon, chives, shallots, celery, and dill. Pulse until smooth and consistent.
  2. Add the smoked salmon and pulse until just combined, then then transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl to fold together the remaining ingredients. Taste test, and adjust to preference.
  3. When ready, transfer to a small serving bowl, garnish with caviar (optional), and pair alongside seasonal produce and/or chips or crackers. Enjoy!
